◆ What is Retracted Alar Correction?
It is hard to give a sleek and attractive impression with visible nostrils. It's not the case of upturned nose but short alar that is causing visible nostrils.
The correction is complicated when even the nose itself is short and has alar retraction.
◆ Surgical Methods According to Different Types
Suitable Correction Based on Accurate Diagnosis for Perfect Nose Shape
Alar Retraction Type 1 (Medial) |
Alar Retraction Type 2 (Central) |
Alar Retraction Type 3 (Lateral) |
Symptom Alar Retraction appears in the medial part of nostrils and is often caused from postoperative contracture of scar tissues. Shows positive postoperative prognosis. | Symptom Alar Retraction appears in the central part of nostrils. Relatively easy to be corrected but the tip may become a bit more bulbous after the surgery. | Symptom Alar Retraction appears in the lateral part of nostrils. It's commonly congenital and requires combination of various surgical methods for effective correction since it's quite complicated to be corrected. |
Surgical Method It can be corrected by fixing the alar cartilage after spreading it or giving extension graft on alar cartilage with autologous cartilage. |
